The Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca, will continue as Chile coach, at least until the last two games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the remainder of the year, against Peru and Venezuela in November, the local sports press reported this Friday.
The agreement emerged after a meeting between president of the Federation (ANP), Pablo Milad, and Gareca, whose continuity was called into question after the 4-0 defeat suffered by La Roja on Tuesday against Colombia in Barranquilla.
The former Peru coach has suffered four defeats in a row: against Argentina 3-0, Bolivia 1-2, Brazil 1-2 and Colombia 4-0. And before, during the Copa América played in the United States, the team fell in the group stage without winning a match.
Chile occupies the last place in the classification of the playoffs with 5 points out of 30 possible.
Press versions agree that Gareca declared himself confident of taking the helm with the national team.
La Roja will visit Peru in Lima on November 15 and four days later they will receive Venezuela in Santiago.
The press suggests that Milad asked Gareca to obtain, at least, four points out of six at stake to maintain the mathematical options of qualifying for the World Cup, which Chile did not attend in the last two editions.
