Former Vice President Álvaro García Linera stated that in 2019 they wanted to kill and humiliate former President Evo Morales, just as they did with former President Gualberto Villarroel, who died after being taken from the Government Palace and dragged through Plaza Murillo while a mob beat and stabbed him. .

For this, he thanked the governments that after his resignation supported him and granted him asylum (Mexico and Argentina).

“They wanted to kill Evo, denigrate, they wanted to see his body dragged through the stands and exhibit it, as they did in 1946 with another popular president of Bolivia who was Gualberto Villarroel, who was lynched and hung in the square,” Garcia said in an interview. with an Argentine state media.

The former second in command of the State thanked him for the support that Morales and he received when they arrived in Argentina, after first being granted asylum in Mexico. “Young progressive militants in Argentina gave us their houses to live in. When we arrived with my wife and daughter we had nothing but a suitcase and a bag of clothes from Alba, not even an identity card, we had nothing, ”he detailed.

García said that the role of Argentine President Alberto Fernández during the 2019 crisis was fundamental. “Such beautiful and decisive attitudes, like that of President (Alberto) Fernández, who used all his prestige to get the movement of other foreign ministries and other countries to save Evo”, he complemented him.

Morales resigned in his stronghold, Chapare (Cochabamba), on the afternoon of November 10, 2019. This was after the preliminary report of the audit of the Organization of American States (OAS) was released, which indicates malicious manipulation of the electoral process of that management.

Villarroel’s death

Former President Gualberto Villarroel was lynched on July 21, 1946 by a group of citizens in Plaza Murillo. Part of the story indicates that the death of this former president was propitiated by the wealthy mining class, since his government policies were to favor the indigenous classes and disadvantaged sectors of the population.

However, facts show that during the Villarroel government abuses were committed, such as the assassination of 10 “conspirators” in Chuspipata (Los Yungas) and notable opposition politicians in 1944. To this is added the repression of politicians and university students in the riots of 1945.
