He is registered with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) under number 27102-511. “El Mayo” has pleaded not guilty to the 17 charges against him, including conspiracy to commit murder, drug trafficking, belonging to a criminal enterprise and possession of weapons.
Zambada was arrested by U.S. authorities in New Mexico on July 25, when he landed on a plane with Joaquín Guzmán López, one of the sons of “El Chapo” Guzmán, who was also arrested.
He is a cell neighbor of Genaro Garcia Luna, former Secretary of Public Security of the Mexican government during the Felipe Calderón administration. The former federal official is awaiting sentencing after being found guilty in February 2023 of receiving bribes from the Sinaloa Cartel, an organization of which “El Mayo” held and disputed control with the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
The magistrate Brian Coganwho also headed the trial against “El Chapo” Guzmán and García Luna, presides over the case against “El Mayo” in the federal court in New York,
In this detention center there is also Keith Ranierefounder of the sect NXIVMimprisoned after being found guilty of the crimes of sexual trafficking, child abuse, organized crime and threats.
Raniere portrayed himself as the leader of an organization that offered personal and professional advancement to its members. However, a report by The New York Times revealed that within that organization there was a sect in which women were subjugated, forced to have sexual contact with the leader and even having Raniere’s initials marked with a surgical instrument.
The Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center is home – by force – to Nestor Isidro Perez Salasbetter known as “The Nini”alleged security leader of the organization of “The Chapitos”led by the sons of the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel and arising from internal conflicts following his arrest.
Captured in November 2023 in Culiacán and extradited to the United States, “El Mayo” is considered by the United States Department of Justice to be one of the main hitmen of said cartel.
