Given the crisis faced by the cleaning service in the El Tambo district, the municipality has resorted to renting dump trucks and trucks to collect solid waste. In the next session of the municipal council, the members will ask Mayor Julio Llallico to apply Article 77 of the Organic Law of Municipalities (LOM), which allows district municipalities to request temporary support from the provincial municipality in case of lack of coverage in public services.
avocation. Councilor José García Terrazos indicated that the municipality should declare itself unable to request provincial help. “The declaration of emergency does not correspond to a district municipality, but a public need can be declared. But we do not live by declaration. What does correspond is for the municipality to ask the provincial for help, as it is not able to face the problem, so that they, through their council, can extend support to us. That is the legal mechanism,” he stated.
García, along with his fellow councilors, also mentioned that he met with cleaning workers to listen to their complaints, since this is not the first time they have requested implements and equipment.
“They have told us that they have been receiving milk for three months, and also there is no maintenance manager. The machinery is in mechanics because the suppliers are not paid,” he explained. Due to this situation, they have had to rent dump trucks to guarantee waste collection. With this problem, the councilors hope to make decisions in the next session that will improve the situation of the cleaning service and ensure adequate waste management in El Tambo .
