Garbage collectors from different districts of Santiago protested in front of the Palacio de La Moneda for the job improvements that were promised by the Government during the pandemic.
“It was always said that the garbage collectors were the first line, but it was only commented and there was never a gesture in relation to the work we do,” said the spokesman for the National Federation of Collectors, Armando Soto.
“What matters most to us are the bills that are in Parliament, that can be made a reality as soon as possible to have a positive response. Otherwise we will have to continue mobilizing and it can get worse and worse,” he added.
While the leader Miguel Sanchezstated that “the Chilean associations of the municipality carried out an impressive lobby so that the project that benefits us and, in a certain way, regulates the system cannot materialize. This is because the municipalities are defending their autonomy, but this continues to allow the rights that affect our conditions that we have today are violated”.
As a result of these protests, a meeting was scheduled for 4:00 p.m. between the president of the union, the Ministry of Labor and the Undersecretary of Regional Development (Subdere).
