The Police dismantled ‘Los del carro rojo’, a gang that stole high-end cars and would be linked to at least eight thefts in Bogotá.
The Bogotá Metropolitan Police confirmed the dismantling of a gang dedicated to the theft of high-end vehicles in various parts of the city.
In that sense, Seven members of the gang known as ‘Los del carro rojo’ were capturedwho used a vehicle of that color to commit the crimes.
The capture of the gang occurred within the framework of the strategy ‘Security, Dignity and Democracy’and the operation carried out in the last few hours was coordinated jointly with the Criminal Investigation Section and surveillance patrols.

The captured people are marked by the crimes of trademark falsification and aggravated and qualified theft.
How did they operate?
As revealed by General Giovanni Cristancho, commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, these criminals stalked their victims at dawn.
“The events occurred in the town of Teusaquillo, after these alleged criminals, in the early morning hours, stole a high-end truck through robbery,” said the officer.
General Cristancho assured that, once the vehicles were stolen, they hid in parking lots and commercial premises.
“After this, they went to an establishment on Avenida 1 Mayo and Carrera 30, where, thanks to camera monitoring, they were able to locate these criminals,” added the general.

The authorities revealed that During the procedure they recovered the vehicle that had been stolen and two other red cars. in which these people moved, apparently to commit these thefts. The Police also seized a motorcycle used by the criminals.
This gang would be responsible for at least eight more thefts. On several occasions they abandoned their vehicles on public roads to evade the authorities.
“In the next few hours, those captured will be placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office so that they can answer for the acts attributed to them,” said General Giovanni Cristancho, commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police.
Reduction in vehicle thefts
“It is important to highlight that this year we have achieved a reduction in vehicle theft of 24%That is, 892 fewer thefts than last year. The same way, a decrease in motorcycle theft of 17%with 887 fewer cases,” stressed General Cristancho.

The towns with the greatest reduction in the crime of theft of vehicles and motorcycles are Candelaria, with 57%; Mártires, with 49%; Antonio Nariño, with 46%; Kennedy, with 40%; and Usaquén, with 40%.
During this year 390 people have been captured for motor vehicle theft and 2,269 cars and motorcycles have been recovered.
