The National Roundtable of the Movement for the Fatherland (PLP) concluded this Saturday that it is essential to reorganize an alternative current within the National Party, which in turn is representative of the “popular sectors”, which, in his opinion, will allow a “healthy competition” that will make that party “large, plural and popular.”
This was made clear in its final declaration by the sector led by Senator Jorge Gandini, who scheduled for the first half of 2023 the holding of a congress that will have the task of making programmatic, strategic and electoral definitions. “There is a space that was always important in the game”, Gandini reflected in dialogue with The Observer. A space that, he pointed out, not only reflects Wilsonianism but also “the other, the popular”.
In this framework, several leaders publicly requested at this Saturday’s meeting that Gandini be a candidate in the 2024 primaries. “It’s not the time, but if I have to go down that road, I’m going to go down it”, Gandini replied. “It’s white to take responsibility.” When consulted, the senator reaffirmed his willingness to follow that path.
PLP’s statement points out its confidence that the sector’s contribution “will be fundamental for the renewal of the party and the coalition in the government of the next period.” He also focused on the next National Party youth election, scheduled for October 29, where the sector will participate with the “Alternative” submotto. There it is insisted that Wilsonianism “must continue rebuilding its own space and opening its way” as happened in the last election to renew the Honorable Directory, where Gandini challenged a list of majority unity and kept 20% of the the votes.
