This week, the Specialized Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation determined that the candidate of the Fuerza y Corazón por México coalition slandered Morena and its candidate, during the second presidential debate (held on April 28, 2024), by issuing expressions that could lead to considering that there is an alliance between criminals and the slandered political force.
The above is because he was charged with a false fact or crime and there are no journalistic reports that provide even minimal elements of veracity regarding the information disseminated.
Gálvez called Sheinbaum a “narco-candidate” during that meeting.
For this reason, the candidate of the Fuerza y Corazón por México coalition was fined 32,571 pesos.
PRI, PAN and PRD were fined 10,857 pesos each for failing to fulfill their duty of care.
In a public session, the Specialized Chamber also concluded that the candidate of the coalition “Let’s Continue Making History” did not slander her counterpart of the coalition “Strength and Heart for Mexico” with statements made in the aforementioned debate.
The Plenary considered that the statements made by the candidate of the coalition “Let’s Keep Making History” do not refer explicitly, directly or unequivocally to an act of corruption, therefore, it is not possible to classify them as false, malicious and do not imply the imputation of a crime.
