Galtier, PSG coach: "There are too many players below your level"

Once again the PSG players came out between a puff from the Parc des Princes. With this sixth defeat in Ligue 1, the Parisian club showed a new collapse at all levels that further overshadows its disappointing season.

Despite lavishing little before the media, the Paris Saint-Germain football adviser, Luis Campos, spoke at the Canal+ microphone on Sunday after the defeat against Lorient (3-1). He asked for a “reaction” from the team to keep the league title and save the little that remains of the season.

Because, after that third setback in four games at the Parque de los Príncipes, the team from the capital, leader with 75 points, only counts a cushion of 5 points over Olympique de Marseille (2nd) and 9 over Lens (3rd), which has a game pending.

With still five dates to be played, the road to an eventual 11th championship title seems to be taking longer than expected, although the obstacles to overcome (Troyes, Ajaccio, Auxerre, Strasbourg and Clermont) seem within reach for the PSG stars, at least on paper.

And it is that after the return of the World Cup and during this second part of the season, nothing seems to work in the team, with a game off, an unbalanced squad and in the midst of an environment of negativity.

“It’s hard when you lose a match like that, I expect a reaction from everyone, from the players, from the coaching staff, from all the people who work at PSG,” Campos said.

For his part, coach Christophe Galtier, suspected of having used discriminatory words when managing Nice, he explained that his team, which was soon down a man, did not start the game well.

Their players seemed lost in the 4-4-2 system, and there was no balance between the lines.

– ‘Lack of concentration’ –
“I went to four back and added a midfielder hoping to have more technical relationships inside the game, but that was not the case,” the coach acknowledged.

“When there is so much technical inconsistency at the beginning of the game, when it’s not a matter of freshness at this point in the game, is that there was a lack of concentration of various players,” he added.

From the beginning of the clash the Parisians lost the duels and they found themselves vastly outclassed in defence, especially in the first two visiting goals (15, 39), in which the Bretons walked through the area.

A collective collapse, but also individual: “A collective and individual awareness is necessary, there are too many players below his level”, commented Galtier.

Leo Messi and Kylian Mbappé only appeared intermittently. And others not even that. Like the Moroccan Achraf Hakimi, who was seen to be too fast from the start of the game, and who had already been sent off in the 20th minute for two yellow cards.

This Monday, Messi went to Saudi Arabia, country with which he signed a sponsorship as tourism ambassador.

“Who thought Saudi Arabia had so much green? I love exploring its unexpected wonders whenever I can,” she posted on Instagram on Saturday.

Beyond the players, Galtier is again in the crosshairs of criticism. Asked about the situation of the coach, who came hand in hand with him last European summer, Campos said he was convinced that the players trust him. “We are all together and that is what I want to say to the fans.”
