The presidential candidate of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), José Gabriel Carrizo Jaén, indicated that his government will continue to be a strategic ally of the agricultural sector.
“We are going to strengthen our domestic food supply and just as we eliminated the import highway, Aupsa, we have proposals on Agri-Food Security and Sovereignty,” said Carrizo.
More than 1.4 million Panamanians live in the agricultural sector, which is also a supplier of raw materials for agribusiness and a guarantee of food security for the entire country.
Among the proposals to strengthen agriculture, the presidential candidate highlighted the planting of new crops and the renewal of plantations, as well as the reinforcement of the process of extracting water from deep wells and the development of irrigation projects, among other initiatives.
During the current administration of Nito Cortizo, agricultural production returned to the path of growth after more than 10 years of losses and being on the brink of bankruptcy.
