Gabriella Mantena, 22, from São Paulo, won silver at the Judo Grand Prix held in Almada, Portugal. In the final of the category up to 63 kg, this Saturday (28), she ended up defeated by the Portuguese Barbara Timo. The home athlete won after the Brazilian suffered three penalties and ended up disqualified.
This was Gabriella Mantena’s first final on the circuit. On the way to the final, the judoka number 105 in the world in the category went through five opponents, including the Venezuelan Anriquelis Barrios, number 3 in the world, in the semifinal.
The day before, Rafaela Silva had won Brazil’s first medal in the competition. She was silver in the category up to 57 kg. The Grand Prix is the first competition of the Brazilian judo team in the 2023 season.
