Yamandú Orsicandidate of the Broad Front (FA)plans to confirm the economist this Monday Gabriel Oddone as his choice for the Ministry of Economy in an eventual government, scheduled to start on March 1, 2025. The press conference will be held at Seregni’s Footprint at 6 p.m., where Orsi will make the official announcement.
Oddone has been actively involved in Orsi’s campaign, accompanying him in most of his recent public appearances. Last week, he was part of a meeting in Buenos Aires with Argentine businessmen, where he was presented as the “potential” Minister of Economy. Although Orsi avoided officially confirming it at the time, he praised Oddone as a “luxury advisor” to the media.
Promises of stability and continuity
During the meeting in Buenos Aires, Orsi reiterated his commitment to the stability and economic continuity of Uruguay, assuring that “Uruguay will continue to function.” He declared that under the leadership of the Frente Amplio, the country would be made to function even better, emphasizing three main pillars: economic growth, social protection and security.
Orsi also stressed his commitment to reducing child poverty and combating organized crime as priorities on his agenda. These proposals are essential to his campaign, reflecting the FA’s focus on carrying out significant reforms to improve social welfare and strengthen security in the country.
Disagreements within the Communist Party and controversies in other sectors
The appointment of Oddone The announcement has not been unanimously received within the Frente Amplio. According to Búsqueda reports, confirmed by El País, the announcement was communicated to the Executive Secretariat of the FA, but has met with resistance in some internal sectors. The lack of consensus underlines the diversity of opinions within the coalition.
The Communist Partyrepresented by its general secretary Juan Castillohas expressed clear disagreement with the decision. Castillo declared in June that Oddone “is not who, from our point of view, would be the best person for the economic leadership of a Frente Amplio government.” He added that he is concerned that Oddone is not the right person to implement the left’s economic program.
