G20 tables are donated to public schools in Rio

The table used by heads of state and leaders of the world’s largest economies at the G20 Summit plenary was donated to 12 municipal schools in Rio de Janeiro. Among the schools chosen is the Ginásio Educacional Tecnológico (GET) Olympic Medalist Lucas Saatkamp, ​​located in Maré. The school’s students were the winners of the short film competition about the G20, organized by the Municipal Department of Education and the Rio G20 Committee. The students had the opportunity to visit the Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern Art (MAM) and visit the areas used during the summit.

In addition to GET Olympic Medalist Lucas Saatkamp, ​​another 11 municipal schools, all named after countries, will receive the tables used in the G20. They are: Escola MunicipalCanada, in Estácio, the first to receive new tables; República Argentina Municipal School, in Maracanã; Sweden Municipal School, in Pilares; Chile Municipal School, in Olaria; Escola Municipal França, in Piedade; Belgium Municipal School, in Guadeloupe; Escola Municipal Honduras, in Praça Seca; Costa do Ivoire Municipal School, in Realengo; Venezuela Municipal School, in Campo Grande; Japanese Municipal School, in Santa Cruz; and the Costa Rica Municipal School, on Governador Island.

Throughout the G20 meetings, other furniture donations were made to public schools. The first batch of 341 wallets was donated in February. There were 177 desks that formed the plenary table of the Meeting of Chancellors, in Marina da Glória. This first batch of furniture was destined for the Olympic educational gymnasiums (GEOs), a school model inspired by the legacy of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

In August, the Department of Education received another 48 desks, which were used at the meeting of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, held at Galpão da Cidadania, in July, and were taken to bilingual schools. Among the schools that received these donations are the technological educational gymnasiums (GETs) Afonso Várzea, Epitácio Pessoa and Aleksander Henryk Laks, which teach English, German and Spanish, respectively. In addition to the GETs, the Centro Integrado de Educação Pública (Ciep) Samuel Wainer and Escola Municipal Orsina da Fonseca, which teach Mandarin, and the Escola Municipal Professora Didia Machado Fortes, which teaches French, also received the tables.

The Group of 20 (G20) is the main forum for international economic cooperation. It is made up of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States, in addition to European Union and African Union.

The group’s members represent around 85% of the world economy, more than 75% of global trade and around two-thirds of the planet’s population.

Throughout the year, several meetings were held within the scope of G20 meetings. The meetings ended with the summit meeting on November 18th and 19th.
