The G20 Social had 46.8 thousand registered participants and more than 15.1 thousand people accredited to participate in the debates that, in total, covered more than 300 topics. THE G20 Social It is an environment to encourage the participation of organized civil society that takes place until tomorrow (16), on the eve of the G20 Summit, a group that brings together the world’s main economies. Debates promoted by social movements and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) take place in warehouses and warehouses in the port region of Rio de Janeiro.
This Thursday, three plenary sessions were held to discuss the three axes proposed by the Brazilian presidency to the G20: Fighting hunger and inequalities; Climate change and sustainability; and Global governance reform.
Macêdo explained that, based on the debates, a document will be consolidated with the main topics of discussion and demands of society, which will be presented this Saturday (16). The minister stated that he is in contact with the Sherpas, who are the official representatives of the G20 member countries, communicating now the topics that have gained relevance.
“The themes that we have noticed that have gained relevance with social movements, with engagement groups, we have been talking to the Sherpas, informing them about those that are gaining relevance and that will possibly be in the document”, he said.
The minister highlighted two main topics of discussion: food security, with food sovereignty products and the production of healthy foods; and decent work, as a way of combating inequalities, especially in the face of the new world of work using apps.
“This participation of society, in an unprecedented way for the G20, in itself, is the most important thing we are doing here. This photograph that the G20 Social is producing is something very powerful and very strong in this mosaic of culture, languages, opinions that is emerging from this process. This is a role that the people exercised and took control of. We invited people and they came wanting to participate in the debates”, he said.
