Health ministers from the countries that make up the G20 meet this week in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting should reach a consensus between nations to be presented at the leaders’ summit, which will be held on November 18th and 19th, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
In a press interview, this Tuesday (29), the Brazilian minister, Nísia Trindade, said that the great contribution that the G20 can make to global health will be to support the creation of a coalition for the local and regional production of vaccines and medicines in countries and regions that have difficulty accessing these vaccines.
“This will be an unprecedented fact. We have been working to reduce inequality between countries and increase this access. This is the main measure that we hope to be approved. It is not possible for us to continue with the dependence that occurred during the covid-19 pandemic, when many countries took a long time to apply the first dose of the vaccine”, said Nísia.
The Minister of Health also said that Brazil will also defend the expansion of the digital health strategy, measures to mitigate the effects of climate change and the creation of an instrument to combat new pandemics.
The country also wants to share the experience of the Science with Health platform, which aims to combat misinformation on health-related topics.
