The Venezuelan Federation of Teachers (FVM) denounced this June 20 that the 2022-2023 school year will close negatively throughout the country due to three of the main most serious problems of the new year that ends in July: students who did not acquire the skills required to pass grade, teachers without decent salaries and schools in terrible conditions.
In the states of Portuguesa and Barinas, children and adolescents spent around five months without receiving classes, due to the fact that educators remained on the streets in protest of the complex crisis that the educational system is suffering, according to the Venezuelan Teachers Union. (Synvema).
“This school year was very negative and eventful for the entire education sector. The teachers worked a mosaic schedule coordinated by the same authorities and the children did not see 100% classes. The students are not prepared and the government does not care. To date, teachers continue to protest in the streets,” said the president of the FVM, Carmen Teresa Márquez, in an interview with Cocuyo effect.
He added that the activities in the classroom will end the second week of July by order of the Ministry of Education. The results at the academic level are alarming, she commented.

He also reported that some educators are earning an average of 11 bolivars a day, which is equivalent to 0.40 dollars according to the exchange rate of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV).

The FVM ensures that teacher desertion exceeds 70% throughout the country. On this, Machado reiterated that the figure could increase next school year due to the null response of the State to the demonstrations of the public sector, which would have a direct impact on the educational quality in Venezuela.
