The NGO Fundaredes reported this Friday that, from the beginning of April to date, there have been 10 murders at the illegal border crossings that connect Venezuela with Colombia through the state of Táchira, where he assured that criminal gangs and irregular groups operate.

The organization pointed out on Twitter that, in the area, the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the “Tren de Aragua” operate, one of the most dangerous criminal gangs in Venezuela, which “dispute control of the border territory, which It has generated the death of Venezuelans on the trails (illegal steps) of the two countries.

“The number of victims recently registered in the illegal steps reveals the perverse actions of the irregular groups that, in addition to generating terror in the populations on both sides of the border, maintain control of the territory through violence,” said the NGO .

According to the reportthree people, whose identities are unknown, were murdered on Thursday of this week.

“We reject these violent acts and demand forceful actions from the security agencies of the Venezuelan State to stop this perverse event,” he added.

In 2021 more than 400 victims

In 2021, Fundaredes documented at least 317 alleged clashes in the border states of Amazonas, Apure, Bolívar, Falcón, Táchira and Zulia, in which 439 people died, which represented 45% of the total. the victims of homicide in those regions.

The documentation and human rights coordinator of Fundaredes, Clara Ramírez, assured EFE that these deaths occurred in the midst of clashes between state security forces and criminal gangs, as well as between irregular armed groups, which are not “exclusively the guerrillas but also gangs with high firepower that operate in border states.”
