José Mejías, coordinator of the NGO Fundaredes in the state of Amazonas, denounced through Radio Fe y Alegría News that three weeks after the disappearance of young Denny Yerimar Carrasquel on Cerro Yapacana, there is still no information on her whereabouts.

The activist confirmed with the relatives that the young woman, 29 years old and a native of Puerto Ayacucho, had arrived at the Cacique mine on the aforementioned hill, located in the San Fernando de Atabapo municipality, and no more was heard from her since the day April 20th. Until May 11 they did not know more information.

“According to the versions of some witnesses at the site, she was taken by members or people who belong to an irregular group that makes an active life in the region. But they (her relatives of hers) ask those same people about the girl and they answer that they don’t have her, that they had released her that same night,” she recounted.

Mejías explained that after this first information “they looked for her everywhere and found no sign of life. This has motivated her relatives to make the respective complaints in the corresponding bodies ».

According to Yandira Romero, her niece Denny Carrasquel went to the mine on Cerro Yapacana “to earn some real money” by trying to sell some motorcycles. The relatives assured that the young merchant was kidnapped in a public place by a group of irregulars without any explanation.

The NGOs Fundaredes and Fundehullan sued state agencies to activate the search for Denny Carrasquel.

The regional coordinator of Fundaredes recalled that this is not the first time that it has happened. “There is the case of the disappearance of Mr. Wilberto Capico in December of last year in that same area of Cacique, in the Yapacana mine.”

He said he did not understand why these types of events occur because “there has been a military deployment since December and that draws a lot of attention and worries because these events take place while there is a strong deployment of military troops.”

The human rights defender confirmed that “we stand in solidarity with the relatives of this girl. There is a representation of her family in her area trying to locate her and find out what has happened to her and they hope that the state will guarantee protection for her physical integrity, since they are carrying out these procedures in the place “.
