The Latin American Foundation for Human Rights and Social Development (Fundalatin), reported on the sending of evidence that demonstrates “the perverse effects of the economic blockade”, referring to the sanctions imposed by the United States on Venezuela since 2015.
Said evidence was presented before the current prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, a judicial instance of the United Nations Organization.
In this sense, the foundation detailed that they sent 302 cases of victims whose rights have been affected, which are added to the 195 sent in six previous referrals made by the same organization since December 30, 2020; for a total of 497 cases awaiting justice before the Prosecutor’s Office of the International Criminal Court, Fundalatin published in a twitter thread.
Among the damages caused by the sanctions, they highlighted: “thousands of people have had difficulties obtaining their oncological, renal and antihypertensive medications.”
They also pointed out the cases of people who died “due to not being able to access medicines or specialized medical treatment” such as operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy; which are just some of those supplied by the State before the sanctions.
Another of the points presented has to do with the lack of access to technical assistance for people with disabilities and children who have not been able to complete their vaccination schedule due to the difficulties that the national government is going through to acquire such supplies.
