MADRID, Spain.- The Hannah Arendt International Institute of Artivism (INSTAR) launched its Veterans Fund to support veteran activists, dissidents and opponents who are in Cuba.
According to explained the cuban artivist Tania Bruguerafounder and director of INSTAR, the Fund aims to provide material aid and basic support to those who have fought and built paths for today’s activists.
Bruguera recalled that these people are vulnerable due to their advanced age, decapitalization, persecution and social stigmas in a totalitarian environment.
The Veterans Fund will not provide monetary support, but will systematize a material assistance plan, he clarified.
For its part, urge accurate that, given the conditions in Cuba, it will not be possible to solve, if not alleviate a little, the precariousness in which these activists may live; Therefore, the program is not only intended to “claim recognition for the work that our predecessors have done, but also to try to provide support that brings them closer to a slightly more dignified life and with the care they deserve after so much effort and sacrifice.” ”.
“In order to carry out this project we need the help of everyone who can locate potential beneficiaries of the Veterans Fund or be part of the support network (volunteer or offering the required paid services) for veterans in Cuba. He also pointed out that in order to build a democracy in Cuba there can be no forgetting. In this sense, he highlighted: “It is not only about rescuing historical memory or lost rights, but also about accompanying the people who have fought before us and have built paths that activists can travel today. For that reason, we formed a Fund for Veterans”.
