The mayor of the Baruta municipality, Darwin González, reported on the morning of Monday, September 9, that traffic was restored on the Las Mercedes overpass, following the work announced in recent days.
Gonzalez, in his social networksindicated that the adaptation work on the structure carried out by the Ministry of Transport was completed successfully, so vehicular traffic was allowed.

The Baruteño official had indicated on the night of Monday, September 2, that the Ministry of Transportation would begin repair work on the Las Mercedes overpass, which connects Rio de Janeiro Avenue with Bello Monte, in order to apply adhesive material on the metal plates of the structure to avoid traffic accidents when it rains.

Through his social networks, the mayor indicated that the works would be carried out in continuous 24-hour shifts, so the Las Mercedes bridge would remain closed during the time that the repairs last. According to the official’s estimates, the works will take approximately five days. Therefore, he indicated that a special operation will be carried out to speed up traffic.
In June, Darwin Gonzalez He had announced that traffic on the Las Mercedes overpass would be restricted when there was rain due to damage to the adhesive material. At that time he pointed out that the repair of this work was the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works.
In this regard, he stressed that “the surface is smooth and we have taken this measure of suspending traffic when it rains specifically for motor vehicles to avoid accidents,” he explained.
