Fulbright offers partial postgraduate scholarship in the US to Peruvians with disabilities

The Fulbright Commission launched the “Disability and Leadership” scholarship for postgraduate studies in the United States (USA). The partial benefit is intended for a professional with a disability “who is a leader and wants to benefit his community with the knowledge acquired”.

According to the National Program of Scholarships and Educational Credit (Pronabec), the duration of the program is two years and it is necessary for applicants to master the English language at an intermediate level.

Regarding the fields of action, applications will be accepted in all areas of knowledge, except medicine, dentistry, nursing, clinical psychology and MBA or Business.

The benefits of the scholarship are:

J-1 visa support.

Room, board, and transportation stipend for up to 21 months.

ASPE medical insurance for up to a maximum of two academic years.

One-way travel from the participant’s hometown to the US.

Intensive English program for up to one year in the USA

In case of having a severe disability, a single payment of USD 10,000 will be provided for a companion.

Pre-departure orientation in Peru.

Pre-Academic Counseling in the US

Guidance in applying to universities and in the exemption of academic expenses.

The Fulbright Commission will request directly to the universities the exoneration of the payment for academic rights. In case of not obtaining the total of the grant, the scholarship can be completed with personal funds of the scholarship recipient or provided by other institutions, depending on the case.

Requirements to apply

Have Peruvian nationality and residence in Peru and knowledge of English. In case of visual disability, the interested party can write to to coordinate a different type of evaluation and be able to certify knowledge of the English language.

University degree and professional title (lawyers only), good academic record, two years of work experience, Conadis card or resolution, or health certificate issued by the Minsa.
