Angangueo, Mich., The governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, announced that an eighth bodyguard of the murdered mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, is a fugitive from justice.

In an interview after the inauguration of the monarch butterfly sanctuaries, he confirmed that one of the mayor’s security elements fled while the other seven bodyguards were being arrested last Friday; However, he did not reveal the identity, but declared that work is already being done to find his whereabouts.

He pointed out that a comprehensive and extensive investigation is being carried out to clarify the murder of Mayor Carlos Manzo, which occurred on November 1.

“This line has already been established as part of the prosecutor’s office, which includes its first security circle, eight bodyguards; yesterday (Friday) seven were arrested, one was not, that is, he is a fugitive,” he declared.

According to the State Attorney General’s Office, on Friday an arrest warrant was executed against the municipality’s public servants, responsible for protecting Manzo, for their alleged participation in the crime of qualified homicide, committed by omission.

Ramírez Bedolla stressed that there is “close” collaboration in the investigations between the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, and the state prosecutor, Carlos Torres.

Extensive research

“What I point out is that the investigation is taking place in a very broad, very professional manner and in collaboration with the state and federal governments, the state prosecutor’s office and also the Ministry of Public Security and Citizen Protection at the federal level,” he stressed.
