Fuerza Vecinal took five requests to Miraflores for a meeting with Maduro

The release of political prisoners, an economy that is not based on controls, guarantees for the foreign vote, the recovery of public services and the continuity of the dialogue were the requests that Fuerza Vecinal discussed with the Chavista administration.

The opposition political party Fuerza Vecinal held a meeting with President Nicolás Maduro at the Miraflores Palace, with the intention of presenting five proposals to discuss within the framework of the dialogue between Chavismo and the opposition.

Maduro, accompanied by Jorge Rodríguez as representative of the Chavista delegation in the dialogue in Mexico, received a commission from Fuerza Vecinal made up of the mayor of Chacao and president of the organization, Gustavo Duque; the mayor of the Pampatar municipality of Nueva Esparta, Morel Rodríguez; the mayor of the municipality Diego Bautista Urbaneja de Anzoátegui, Manuel Ferreira; the coordinators Pablo Zambrano, Rosiris Toro and David Uzcátegui.

At the end of the meeting, which lasted approximately one hour, the spokesman for Fuerza Vecinal, David Uzcátegui, pointed out that they discussed five proposals that the party presented to Maduro for their application in the coming months, as the dialogue process progresses with the different factors of the opposition, which is centralized in the negotiations with the Unitary Platform in Mexico.

In the first place, Fuerza Vecinal requested the release of all political prisoners in the country, which according to figures from the NGO Foro Penal, are at least 240 people. “That on Christmas Eve, these people can spend Christmas with their families,” said Uzcátegui.

They also asked for a “reflection” regarding the economic model, pointing out that development is allowed without controls. This request makes sense given the intentions to retake certain controls, as the Maduro administration has expressed when once again criticizing the “criminal dollar” and proposing measures to regulate the parallel market.

Similarly, they demanded guarantees so that Venezuelans residing abroad have the opportunity to exercise the right to vote in the 2024 presidential elections.

On the other hand, they stressed the request for the recovery of public services. «We have mayors in many cities and we see the state of hospitals, schools, homes, public transport. We continue to see long lines to get gas. We have said everything today,” he said.

Finally, they stressed that they are committed to the dialogue in Mexico and ask that the progress that has been made promote “the comprehensive solution of the problems of Venezuelans in the short term.”

Chavismo holds meeting with Fuerza Vecinal

On the part of the ruling party, the spokesperson was in charge of Jorge Rodríguez, who celebrated the realization of this type of rapprochement and highlighted the intention of Chavismo to talk with opposing political factors.

“It is an important message for all of Venezuela. Regardless of the profound differences we have, of the different ways of thinking, in democracy and in politics the factors sit down, discuss, exchange proposals and reach agreements”, he highlighted.

The also president of the National Assembly (AN) elected in 2020 pointed out the conviction shown by Fuerza Vecinal to accompany the agreements reached in Mexico with the Unitary Platform.

This meeting took place a week after Maduro received the president of the Alianza del Lápiz party in Miraflores, together with the national secretary general, Eric Ondarroa; and the national secretary of Electoral Control, Mayerling Occhino; in addition to the mayors of the Libertador municipality in Aragua state, Gonzalo Díaz Plaza, and of the San Sebastián de los Reyes municipality in Aragua state, Andrés Aular Arnaudez.

On Friday, December 2, Maduro led a meeting with representatives of the opposition grouped in the Democratic Alliance, which resulted in the agreement to establish working groups to define an agenda of prioritized issues within a period of 30 days.

In this sense, the dialogue will address the economic, social, political and electoral area, whose conclusions will be established in a joint document that will be presented at the end of 30 days.
