The bench of Popular Force agreed this afternoon to support the candidacy of Popular Action legislator María del Carmen Alva for the presidency of Congress, replacing the censored José Jerí.
César Revilla, spokesman for the group, said in a press conference that the country needs order and stability. “We opposed censorship not because of people but to avoid greater instability, we do not defend governments but Peru. We believe that the country cannot resist more improvisations or political calculations, we have already learned, today the priority today must be the future and the tranquility of the citizens; that is why we will support Maricarmen Alva,” he indicated.
He urged, in this context, to make “an agreement with Peruvians, not between politicians, based on five axes.”
In that line he mentioned the following points:
-Active participation of the Armed Forces together with the Police in the fight against crime with permanent tracking operations and strengthening of Intelligence.
-Permanent presence of law enforcement officers on public transportation in Lima to protect citizens.
-Compulsory work for inmates and joint control of prisons by police and Armed Forces.
-Immediate deportation of foreigners in an illegal situation, and
-Full guarantee of the right to vote through the opening and operation of all voting centers.
There is still no agreement. A few hours before the election of the new president of the Congress of the Republic, the bench of Popular Force (FP) He has not yet defined what his position will be and is torn between abstention and support for his Popular Action colleague María del Carmen Alva.
Accredited sources of Peru21 They revealed that within the Fujimori bloc—which has 20 members—there are two factions: that of the provincials, who propose abstaining from this afternoon’s vote in order not to take responsibility for whoever is finally elected.
The second group is made up of parliamentarians representing Lima, or those from the capital, who mostly consider that Fuerza Popular should support what — they say — would be “the lesser evil” in this election and who, they consider, is represented by legislator Alva.
And, they pointed out, the acciopopulist legislator is the one who guarantees in some way to continue smoothly with the current economic policy and avoid measures that generate instability.
What is clear, they added, is that there will be no Fujimori vote in favor of any of the other three candidates.
As is known, today starting at 6 pm, the election of José Jerí’s replacement as president of Parliament will take place.
There are four candidates: María del Carmen Alva from Acción Popular, Edgard Reymundo from the Popular Democratic Bloc; José María Balcázar from Perú Libre and Héctor Acuña from Honor and Democracy.
Among the four of them, the one who would generate relative acceptance in Fujimorism is Alva, who, it is recalled, had previously given their votes when he headed the list for the Legislative Board of Directors in the 2021-2022 period.
She was then elected heading a formula promoted by the so-called Democratic Bloc that then brought together the benches of Fuerza Popular, Avanza País, Alianza para el Progreso, Somos Perú and Acción Popular.
