SANTO DOMINGO.- The Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party denounced that the Dominican educational system is going through a process of “progressive deterioration”, despite the fact that the Government has allocated more than one trillion 465 billion pesos to the sector during the last five years, without these resources translating into substantial improvements in the quality of learning or in the strengthening of school infrastructure.
Josefina Pimentel, former Minister of Education and head of the Education Secretariat of the People’s Force, presented a summary of the balance for the year 2025 on the management of the Modern Revolutionary Party in educational matters, during a press conference in which she was accompanied by deputy secretaries from the different areas of the educational sector.
Likewise, the head of Education of the Fuerza del Pueblo stated that there is “low investment of resources in substantive areas of the sector, such as infrastructure, teacher training and professionalization, resources and teaching materials, in sufficient quantity and quality,” which limits the system’s ability to improve its quality.
Pimentel warned that this situation reflects poor budget management, pointing out that in 2025 the Ministry of Education received a budget of more than RD$285 billion, the execution of which was predominantly concentrated on current expenses, which amounted to nearly 80% of the total.
In this sense, he stated that the resources allocated to teacher training and equipment represented only 2.6% and 2.9%, respectively, while school maintenance reached minimum levels, evidencing the progressive abandonment of educational infrastructure.
