Luis Fuenmayor Toro, former rector of the UCV, does not find it strange that former minister Tareck El Aissami appears in an embassy after being shaken by various cases of corruption that were recently uncovered. In his opinion, the operations seem more like a “purge” than anti-corruption work
The former rector of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) Luis Fuenmayor Toro considers that the current investigation carried out by the administration of Nicolás Maduro for various cases of corruption in various state companies, is more due to an “internal purge” than a true operation in favor of transparency.
Fuenmayor Toro rather believes that the “orange panties show” that has been on display since mid-March is aimed at an internal struggle for power. For this reason, he assures that what the Executive did was “flee forward.”
“This government is much more intense in this behavior of hiding and only removing information when they cannot hide more and only what favors them. That is a flight forward, “he said in an interview with the journalist Vladimir Villegas.

Regarding the whereabouts of former Oil Minister Tareck El Aissami, who has not spoken after resigning from his position after the scandal was uncovered, the former rector of the UCV hypothesizes that the pro-government politician could show signs of life from abroad.
“I would not be surprised if Tareck El Aissami appears outside the country, and even if he is named ambassador in one of the Arab countries,” Fuenmayor Toro specified.
In his opinion, because the opposition is atomized, it cannot take advantage of the situation with the Executive and the cases of corruption.
Luis Fuenmayor Toro took the opportunity to comment on the UCV elections scheduled for next May 26, saying that it seems positive to him that elections are held to update the authorities after 15 years. He believes that the winner of these elections can really look after the university and not other interests.
