Fuel station worked with seven altered dispensers

The executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddie Alcantara, revealed this Wednesday that this entity has closed during its management more than a hundred dispensers of gasoline and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) stations, that dispensed fuel below the amount paid by consumers.

Alcántara indicated that only yesterday they detected in a gas station seven altered dispensers out of fourteen that this fuel dispensing establishment has, for which sanctions were immediately applied to the owners of the same for attacking the economic interests of the citizens who They bought gasoline at that station.

In that sense, the official said that the institution has imposed fines of up to 2.5 million pesos for the alteration of dispensers in those establishments.

He stressed that Pro Consumidor permanently carries out inspections at gas stations and LPG bottling plants throughout the national territory to avoid improper practices to the detriment of consumers.

The head of the consumer protection entity pointed out that these operations are carried out jointly with technicians from the Dominican Institute for Quality (INDOCAL) “so that this institution, which has a properly trained staff, close the taps or dispensers that affect the pockets of consumers.”

Eddy Alcántara clarified that with the inspections that are carried out previously at random, by trade and complaints, “we have found that the vast majority of dispensers are all calibrated as established by the standard that protects the rights of consumers.”

And that -he continued saying- has been verified in most of the stations of the main cities of the country, such as Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Santiago, San Pedro de Macorís, La Vega, San Francisco de Macorís, Moca, Higüey and The Roman.

“We have managed to make the country begin to trust Pro Consumer because we are enforcing General Law 358 -05 on the Protection of Consumer or User Rights”, the director of the entity finally stated.
