From this Saturday (1st), supplying the vehicle will be more expensive. The readjustment of the price of diesel by Petrobras and the increase in the tax on the circulation of goods and services (ICMS), collected by states, on gasoline, ethanol, diesel and biodiesel, are responsible for discharge.
In the case of diesel, the Petrobras raised the price In refineries at R $ 0.22 per liter (+6.2%), to reduce the 17% lag compared to international prices. In addition, the ICMS rate will rise R $ 0.06, from R $ 1.06 to R $ 1.12 per liter.
Regarding gasoline and ethanol, Petrobras did not change the price in refineries, which has a lag around 7% compared to international prices. However, the ICMS rate rose R $ 0.10, from R $ 1.37 to R $ 1.47 per liter.
The ICMS readjustment on fuel throughout Brazil was determined by Confaz (National Council of Treasury Policy), a body that brings together the state farm secretaries. For the model in force since last year, fuel ICMs rates are now readjusted, based on average prices surveyed by the National Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) between February and September of the previous year.
In the case of cooking gas, the rates will fall R $ 0.02, from R $ 1.41 to R $ 1.39 per kilo. According to Confaz, the fall occurs because the cylinder became cheaper last year, which was reflected in lower ICMs.
ICMS rates went to the following values:
Fuels | Tax rates until January | From January 1st |
Gasoline/ethanol |
R $ 1.37 per liter | R $ 1.47 per liter |
Diesel / Biodiesel |
R $ 1.06 per liter |
R $ 1.12 per liter |
Cooking gas |
R $ 1.41 per kilo |
R $ 1.39 per kilo |
The impact on the final price depends on the market. This is because Petrobras prices are set at refineries, and distributors, gas stations and traders, in the case of cooking gas, be set. Generally, tax and price increases in refineries are passed on to consumers.
Since 2022, ICMS rates on fuels have been established at fixed values per liter (or per kilo, in the case of cooking gas). Prior to that, state rates obeyed a percentage of the final price defined by each unit of the federation.
Aviation kerosene
Another fuel that will be more expensive in February is aviation kerosene. Petrobras announced the price increase by 8%, equivalent to R $ 0.31 per liter in refineries. Unlike other fuels, the price of aviation kerosene is set each month because it is linked to the dollar and the international oil quote.
With the readjustment in February, aviation kerosene accumulates high of R $ 0.56 per liter in 2025 (+15.6%). According to Petrobras, since December 2022, the price of kerosene fell $ 0.93 per liter (-18.3%).
