Both from the Christian Democracy (DC) itself and from the new Democrats party, various signs of support have been received by Fuad Chahín, after a group of militants from the phalanx filed a complaint with the Supreme Court requiring his expulsion from the party. This, because the ex-conventional publicly supported the Rejection in the face of the plebiscite of September 4, 2022, contravening the option supported by the community: the Approval.
“What happened against Fuad Chahín by the Supreme Court is the most serious and irregular. Today it only works with a third of its members, they received the complaint on a holiday and the next day in a flash session, they suspended him, knowing that it would be candidate for national counselor,” said the national vice president of the DC Gianni Rivera, expressing all his support for the former deputy.

The support of the Democrats could be attractive for the ex-conventional, since the recently launched community groups precisely those who were detractors of the constitutional proposal. However, Chahín affirms that he will not leave the DC, for now, he is not “showcasing” in other political tents and will insist on his nomination to the national council.
“I’m not window shopping. I’m focused on defending not only my dignity and my rights, but also the dignity of the party,” said Fuad Chahín, in a conversation with The counter. In his opinion, in DC “they don’t want her to be able to speak on the board or for her to be part of the council.” This, because “they were afraid that the meeting would anticipate and that is why they blocked the self-convocation”. Later, he added, “they were afraid to discuss looking at our faces and that is why they wanted it to be telematic and not face-to-face.” And, now, he continued, “they are afraid of my speech in the meeting and that I could win the national council with a large majority.”
Let us remember that this Friday, one day after the temporary expulsion of Chahín became official, the deadline to register as a candidate for the DC national council expires. In that sense, the former parliamentarian pointed to the speed with which his departure was processed, reviewing the legitimacy of the Supreme Court; which two of its members have recently resigned.
“A group of militants close to Senator Yasna Provoste and Secretary General Cecilia Valdés presented the request for my expulsion on November 1, a holiday. And yesterday the Supreme Court held an extraordinary session to suspend me and thus prevent me from registering as a candidate for the council “, Chahín recounted, noting that he will insist on his candidacy anyway.
“I am going to register the same, because I do not recognize any jurisdiction of this court. And, if they do not let me compete, then I will have to resort to justice”, sentenced who was president of the DC until May 2021, ruling out taking a step to side of the Falangist store for now. “I’m not going to give it to you that easy,” he said.
In the battle for the political centerthis new upheaval in DC comes at a difficult time for Christian Democrats, from the escape of some historical figures such as René Cortazar and Claudio Orregoafter the resignation of two members of the Supreme Court in the last few hours —lawyers Luis Riquelme and Hugo Cifuentes— and a few days before the National Board —next November 12— where the future of the party founded in 1957 and the that an agreement should be sought to designate a president of the community, to replace the resigned Felipe Delpín post 4-S.
The phalanx today is led by the surrogate president Aldo Mardones, who has affirmed that “today the multidimensional crisis that Chile is experiencing has also affected those who lead the DC.”
