With the aim of guaranteeing stability in the supply of chicken and stable prices, The poultry sector grouped in ADA, in conjunction with the State, develops a project to expand the cooling capacity for frozen chicken meat reserves.
The president of ADA, Pavel Concepción, explained that the initiative contemplates duplicating the availability of storage, going from seven to 15 million pounds, through the construction of a cold room with additional capacity for eight million pounds. The projected investment is around US $ 10 million and the work is expected to be ready for next year, with the goal of having it operational in the summer.
He stressed that the project arises following the situation registered between July and August, when poultry production reached one of its lowest points of the year. The heat, the economic losses suffered by the producers in May and the suspension of chicken imports due to higher prices abroad caused the offer to be reduced. At that time, the country had seven million pounds of stored meat, reserves that served to reduce the impact of distortion on the market, although they could not complete it completely. Currently, these reservations are exhausted and the goal is to have a reserve in the face of eventualities.
