During this Friday a new frontal system was registered in the Metropolitan region, which ended up affecting various points in the city of Santiago due to intense rains. Specifically, traffic lights turned off, routes cut and even the closure of border crossings are reported.
From the Meteorological Directorate of Chile (DMC) they reported through their Twitter account that for this Friday “between 10 and 15 mm of rain are expected for the Metropolitan region. In the foothills sector they could fall up to 20 mm.”

In addition, they added that the capital already accumulates 11.4 millimeters of fallen water, adding a total of 16.2 mm when counting the rains this Thursday night. This frontal system has already wreaked havoc in different parts of the Metropolitan region.
Consequences of the rains
The Presidential Delegation of the Province of Los Andes reported that due to weather conditions, the closure of the Los Libertadores Border Crossing, which joins Chile with Argentina, was determined.
“Users of the Cristo Redentor Integrated System are informed that by decision of both coordinations, starting at 08:00 a.m. in Chile and 09:00 a.m. in Argentina, today, Friday, July 1, 2022, traffic is suspended for all types of vehicles through this international corridor,” they said in a press release.

For its part, TransportInforma reported that there are 16 intersections in Santiago with traffic lights turned off as a result of the falling water. Among the affected communes are: Quinta Normal, Santiago, Recoleta, San Bernardo, Calera de Tango, La Florida, Estación Central and Cerro Navia.
