There is talk of a waste of 40 billion pesos by the entity.
News Colombia.
On Monday, August 5, the Comptroller General of the Republic revealed alarming findings about Nueva EPS, the largest health provider in Colombia.
According to the report, the entity would have embezzled around 40 billion pesos in 2020.
Resources allocated to unjustified expenses
The regulatory body found that Nueva EPS made payments not related to health services.
During 2020, at least 40 billion pesos were spent on fees for board members, gasoline vouchers, travel advances, and yoga and pilates classes, among other questionable expenses.

The Comptroller’s Office also found that the New EPS used 62 billion pesos from the training payment unit (UPC) of 2020 to cover health services from previous periods, specifically from 2008 to 2015.
Irregularities in other EPS
The report was not limited to the Nueva EPS; the Comptroller’s Office discovered irregularities in 24 EPS during 2020, in the midst of the pandemic.
Payments to third parties amounting to 5.3 billion pesos were found, which resulted from the difference between what was invoiced and what was paid.
In the Nueva EPS, unsupported transfers were found for 2.1 billion pesos.
Surpluses and payments of prescribed debts
In 2020, a surplus of 643 billion pesos was generated from maximum budgets. In addition, EPS SOS paid prescribed debts for 86 billion pesos with surplus resources from the UPC in 2020.
Carlos Hernán Rodríguez, Comptroller General of the Republic, declared these events to be of high national impact. All investigations will be carried out by the Special Crimes Unit against Corruption of the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic.
