Starting today, Saturday June 11, Mella avenue and Benito González street they change direction by disposition of the Council of Regidores of the Mayor’s Office of the National District, for which merchants of both routes have high hopes that economic activity in the area will be revitalized.

Since yesterday, brigades from the capital city council have made changes to the traffic signs so that drivers do not claim to be unaware of them, since in principle it could cause adaptation problems.

The arrangement is a joint effort between the Mayor’s Office, the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant), General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett), the Ministry of Public Works (MOPC) and the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur).

Samuel Fersobepresident of the Merchants Association of Avenida Mella y Entorno, considers that the change of direction on these roads would substantially improve vehicular traffic, which becomes chaotic at times.

Regarding the revitalization of commerce on the roads, he considers that it is urgent to guarantee greater security in the area, since many criminals nest in nearby neighborhoods, such as Little Haiti and others, from where they go to commit robberies and robberies.

A great difficulty, he says, is the lack of parking, which is why many people prefer to go to other places because they cannot find a place to leave their vehicles, although they find more comfortable prices in La Mella and Benito.

In addition, it is necessary to work on the de-urbanization and rescue of the sidewalks, as well as the filters and scuppers, since they emit very unpleasant stenches.

On your side, Delcio Antonio Nunezpresident of the Association of Merchants of the Model Market (ACOMEMO), said that the changes were agreed upon with all sectors, and that there are expectations that the area will resume its splendor.

He believes that later the area must be promoted, de-urbanized and guarantee greater security to national and foreign visitors, who have moved away from the area.

He considers that it is necessary for the merchants to unify to try to develop a joint plan with a view to relaunching Mella Avenue, Benito González Avenue and surroundings.

50% of the stores in La Mella are closed.
