From teaching dance classes to having a successful real estate company in Argentina

MADRID, Spain.- Cuban Yendys Amengor Perovani, 38, left Cuba at the age of 25 for Argentina, a country where he carved out a path and now has his own business in the sector real estate, of which he says he is proud.

Amengor Perovani traveled to Argentina thanks to a letter of invitation from his first cousin Maykel, with whom he lived during his first time there.

In Cuba, he worked as a computer scientist at the Cuban Ministry of Information Technology, but according to what he recounted in an interview with the Argentine media Infobae, He began to feel “locked in.”

Upon arriving in the South American country, the Cuban, a native of Cárdenas, Matanzas, dedicated himself to giving dance classes, animating birthday parties and doing salsa shows.

In order to teach salsa, he explained, he had to learn to mark the steps, “because dancing is one thing and teaching is another.”

Regarding this first stage, he recalls: “Cubans radiate joy, the motivation to be happy, look for the negative, the positive. And I think that I have transmitted in the animations. At a party they could all be eating sitting quietly until the morocho arrived, as they say here, and everyone began to jump, dance, feel joy, take off their tie.

These classes, in addition to being his livelihood for three years, allowed him to meet a lot of people, who later became clients, or contacts to get clients, in the real estate sector.

“Today I am in a business that moves based on contacts. If I hadn’t given salsa classes, my business wouldn’t be at the level it is now, in the sense that it’s nothing more than relationships. As an immigrant it was very difficult to start a world where he had not had any friends as a boy. That 1, 2, 3 (the dance steps) allowed me to promote and grow my company. I do real estate deals with people who call me and the first word they say to me is ‘Do you remember me? I was your student,’ ”she comments in that sense.

In addition, he argues that with the people he knows from the classes, “he has almost 50% of his business resolved. People saw how I was and the essence of one is one. The way of handling, the treatment, the level. My classes on average had between 60 and 100 students.”

Although he started in the real estate business in 2012, it was in 2017, before his daughter Isabela was born, that he decided to open his own company: “I told myself that it had to turn out well no matter what. My daughter would arrive and I had to feed her. She wanted to be independent ”.

Little by little, his work became known through “word of mouth, referrals, and in cautious steps”.

Currently, his business is running as planned, and he considers that his greatest achievement was having done it alone, from scratch, in a totally new country for him.
