Biography and sports career
Rommel Aghmed Pacheco Marrufo was born on July 12, 1986, in Mérida, Yucatán. As a child, he began practicing water sports, starting with swimming and later diving. At the age of 11, he left home to join the National Diving Team, based in Mexico City, and participate in First Force tournaments in his discipline.
His first Olympic participation was in Athens 2004 and he retired in Tokyo 2020. He was unable to participate in London 2012 due to an injury, but he remained in the rest of the competitions. He was world champion at the 2016 Diving World Cup, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He was an Olympic finalist six times, a Pan-American champion three times, a Central American champion twice, and is the only Mexican with a perfect dive in an international competition. He has won 38 medals in events of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and competitions of the Olympic cycle, won the National Sports Award in 2005, and is an 11-time winner of the Sports Merit Award in the state of Yucatan.
He holds a degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Anáhuac, and a Master’s degree in Human Capital. He has participated as a national and international speaker and has been committed to activities with social impact.
He also founded the Thermo Health Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic.
In politics, Pacheco was a deputy for the National Action Party in 2021. He later competed for the mayor of Mérida for the Morena Party, but lost in the elections last June.
