From Marina del Pilar to Astudillo, the politicians whose visas have been withdrawn by the US

Juan Francisco Gim

The mayor of Nogales, Sonora, had his visa revoked last August. On his social networks, the politician assured that it was an administrative matter.

“I maintain peace of mind and a clear conscience because I was not described as doing anything wrong, that’s why I’m still here. I’m sure that time will prove me right,” he reported.

The mayor of Nogales stated that the withdrawal of his visa was only an administrative procedure.

Hernán José Vega Burgos

The current Judicial Power magistrate had his visa withdrawn last February by the US government.

There is no official version about the withdrawal of his visa, however, during the campaign the Judiciary was accused of alleged links with a sexual exploitation network when he was a state delegate of the National Migration Institute.

Luis Samuel Guerrero Delgado

Last August it was reported that the husband of the mayor of Mexicali, Norma Bustamante, had his visa revoked when he tried to enter the United States.

On her social networks, the mayor stated that this measure was only for her husband, who is an official of the State Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Coepra) in Baja California.

“In relation to the information about the immigration situation of my husband Luis Guerrero, we clarify that he was interviewed for review at the Mexicali checkpoint, after asking the authorities a series of questions. They withheld your visa for no reason or prior notice, this only affects him in his border crossing situation,” he reported on his social networks.

Sonia Villarreal Pérez

The undersecretary of the government of Coahuila, Sonia Villarreal Pérez, also had her visa withdrawn last August, a measure that also applied to her husband Jorge. Miguel Barajas Hernandezregional coordinator of the Specialized Police of Coahuila.

The withdrawal of the visa occurred when the official tried to cross to attend her medical appointment in San Antonio. The official considered that the measure was applied due to the possibility that her son would be born in the United States.

“I think my conclusion is pregnancy, because the only thing they said is that there is a new provision by the United States government and that there are new immigration policies for interviews,” he reported.

Mario Alberto López Hernández

The federal representative of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) was another of the politicians whose visa was withdrawn by the US government.

The legislator was detained for 12 hours in Puente Viejo Internacional by elements of the Customs and Border Protection Office. Then they let him free… without his document.

Oscar Eduardo Castro Castro

The mayor of Puerto Peñasco had his visa revoked last June when he was trying to enter the state of Arizona through the San Luis Río Colorado checkpoint.

The withdrawal of his permission to enter the United States is related to an alleged ongoing investigation.

Without confirming the withdrawal of his visa, the official assured that this version had been spread on at least three occasions, but that the only permit he required was for the town hall of Puerto Peñasco, Sonora.

“This topic has come up about three times, and believe me, the important thing is that where I have to go, which is the City Hall, to fulfill my obligations, no visa is required. What really worries me is the problem of Puerto Peñasco,” he said.

A list of 50 politicians

The Reuters news agency reported that 50 Mexican politicians had their visas revoked, however, President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that they were not informed about this.

“No, we do not have information… The United States government has been very clear about this, that it is personal information. The person who knows it is the person whose visa could have been withdrawn in any case. But it is not information that they share with the Government of Mexico, given that it is personal information,” the president reported.
