The Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations (UN) denounced the serious aggression perpetrated by the US government by using military force to intercept a ship and steal its cargo of Venezuelan oil despite the fact that it was carrying out legal and legitimate commercial activities, in accordance with international law.
Through a statement broadcast on Foreign Minister Yván Gil’s Telegram channel, the member states of the Group of Friends reaffirmed the defense of international law, the sovereignty of peoples and regional peace. Therefore, they demand the immediate cessation of unilateral coercive actions against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Next, they warn that “this last action, carried out by official military forces of a State, constitutes a serious violation of international law, including the right to property.”
Furthermore, they reiterate that Latin America and the Caribbean is a zone of peace and that unilateral military acts, theft of assets, and threats of use of force, whether on land, air or sea, represent a direct attack on the sovereign right of the Venezuelan people to determine their own political, economic and social path.
The Group of Friends ratifies its absolute and unwavering solidarity with the people and the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
