This Friday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m., in Tristán Narvaja and Cerro Largo, the National Liberation Movement – Tupamaros (MLN-T), will carry out its traditional tribute to Ernesto “Che” Guevara, and to the fallen guerrillas in Pando (Alfredo Cultelli , Jorge Salerno and Ricardo Zabalza), under the slogan: “Against hunger, poverty and corruption: A single popular front”.

The following will take the floor: Daniel Caggiani, Antonella Garrido, Tato Larrosa, Sol Maneiro, Mariana Píriz, Franco Staggi; and Diane Denoir will proceed to poetry reading.

The struggle as the backbone

Through a statement, the MLN-T expressed that, in the framework of a general crisis of the capitalist civilizational model, which in the name of profit is putting at risk the conditions that make life possible on the planet, and in a global context of growing geopolitical and civilizational tensions, one must think from an “emancipatory” perspective that looks at the regional perspective and the continentality of the struggle as the backbone to face common problems, which “is one of the strategic tasks in these times of so much globalized uncertainty”.

“The right in our country, with the president at the head, has decided to deepen the model of the government of the few, that is, that of the gold mesh. In the pandemic it became clear that the policies of this government have favored the strongest economic sectors in Uruguay. As a clearer example we have the agro-export sector, with a 26% growth in its exports and an increase in bank deposits of 4,000 million dollars”, questioned the MLN-T.

The Tupamaros assure that “the majority of the people have lost purchasing power and wages that will not be recovered.”

In addition, “the increase in sustained prices, the deregulation of employment, has transformed life in our country into hardship for workers who go out to earn a living every day.”

The Tupamaro movement highlights the solidarity response of many Uruguayans, who through the popular pots make it possible for “compatriots to have, at the end of the day, a little food for themselves and their children”, which speaks of the solidarity reserves that exist In our country.

The popular movement in Uruguay needs to “unify the struggles”, indicates the sector, and recognizes that “the problem is how the left manages to unite and transform these struggles into a country project in which the Broad Front must synthesize, propose and build the current that allows to retake not only the resources of the State, but also to build a national feeling that defends the interests of the majority”.

“We are committed to this task to unite and join as many people as possible in the fight to twist this government policy that excludes the majority. The MLN-T understands it is necessary to strengthen and continue working in the popular movement and popular organizations to advance in the generation of conditions that allow the construction of a new social order that overcomes capitalism, a system that puts life and not profit at the center. of your interest”, is expressed in the statement.
