In the first half of the year, Peruvian exports to Costa Rica totaled US$38.9 million, achieving an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2021 (US$31.1 million), reported the Association of Exporters (ADEX).
The export union indicated that of the total of that figure, 88% was for non-traditional shipments.

In the first half of 2022, the trade balance was in deficit for our country by US$7 million. While Peruvian exports to Costa Rica amounted to US$39 million, imports amounted to US$46 million.
Three sectors benefited most
Since the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed by Peru and Costa Rica, on June 1, 2013, agribusiness, iron and steel and textiles were the three sectors that benefited most from this trade agreement, ADEX said.
Figures from the ADEX Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System highlighted that non-traditional shipments to that Central American market increased 63.7%, going from US$ 48.5 million, between June 2012 and May 2013, to US$ 79.4 million, between June 2021 and May 2022.
In the same period, agribusiness went from US$7.9 million to US$23.1 million, iron and steel from US$2.7 million to US$6.9 million; and textiles from US$771,168 to US$1.8 million.

Regarding the commercial integration between both countries, it should be noted that in 2021 Peru was the world supplier No. 36 of Costa Rica, with a share of 0.4% of the total imported by that nation. In the ranking of Latin America it was positioned at number nine.
