The Frente Amplio bench of deputies requested this Thursday that the representative Germán Cardoso resign from the seat he assumed immediately after having resigned from his post as Minister of Tourism persecuted by a series of scandals and questions about advertising purchases from the Estonian company Kirma Services OÜ.
“We understand that Deputy Cardoso has failed with his actions as Minister of Tourism and also as a member of this Chamber by not allowing an investigation according to what was done in the investigative commission, by not requesting a license so that the Chamber can investigate his actions ”, Said deputy Daniel Caggiani, coordinator of the FA bench at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
“We understand that Deputy Cardoso has to step aside and resign before the Chamber of Deputies,” he remarked, adding that “those irregularities or illicitnesses that were denounced at the time were fully confirmed by part of the commission’s work, by fewer than those who make up the commission in a minority, which in turn have collected much more information than we had when we started the work.
For the FA, Caggiani said, “the complaint process that we carried out in the Office of the Prosecutor in September is necessary, to expand it and therefore we are preparing a new complaint to expand this situation. We are among those who believe that the judicialization of politics is not pertinent ”.
“We understand that undoubtedly the policy has to provide the necessary tools to be able to safeguard in all its tasks the actions carried out by those responsible for each of the public offices, but unfortunately when verifying illicits and flagrant irregularities in the Cardoso administration in the Ministry of Tourism , we see ourselves in the need not only to confirm this complaint, but to expand it, and in turn, we have decided, also in plenary session, so as not to tarnish the name of this Parliament, the Colorado Party and the ruling party, to request the resignation of Deputy Cardoso to his bench as a deputy ”, continued the MPP legislator.
The “Cardosogate” case
Germán Cardoso resigned from the Mintur after it emerged in September that under his administration the purchase of US $ 280,000 was ordered from the opaque Estonian company Kirma Services Oü, which although it appears in the Single Registry of State Suppliers (RUPE), when it was consulted This database had incomplete data: at the reported address they do not have offices or staff and no one answers at the telephone numbers indicated, according to an investigation by the weekly Search.
To the case, which began to be called “Cardosogate”, another series of confusing facts is added, such as, for example, that Cardoso said that the company had offices in Uruguay while the company denied that assertion. When Kirma won a tender, it was the first time it had operated in Uruguay and it outperformed two other companies with an important history of work for the state.
Its owner, Giorgios Shipillis, is a businessman of Cypriot nationality who was registered with the RUPE with his name incorrectly.
Additionally, Banco República warned that it could not make the payment to the company because the conditions to comply with all the requirements of the anti-money laundering legislation were not met.
