According to the political force, the decision is “absolutely inconvenient” and was taken at a time when the Government is close to ending its mandate.
The left -wing coalition argues that the work, raised as a complementary solution to Corrientes, “does not guarantee the supply of drinking water” and generates “negative environmental, social and economic impacts.” In addition, it highlights that various sectors of the Academy, civil society and the local population have expressed forceful questions to the project.
In the statement, the party indicates that the estimated cost of the work, between 900 and 1,000 million dollars, will compromise OSE’s finances, which depends on its rate to operate, leaving the public company without margin for future investments. Likewise, it warns that the project could contradict article 47 of the Constitution, which establishes principles for water management as an essential resource.
The FA emphasizes that from the beginning it opposed the Arazatí project and prioritized alternatives such as the Casupá dam, which they considered more appropriate to meet the drinking water needs of the metropolitan area. “We reject the project because it is unsustainable from the financial and social point of view,” emphasizes the declaration.
Finally, the Frente Amplio reaffirms its confidence that the next government led by Yamandú Orsi, who told the president his position contrary to the project, will act with determination to mitigate the effects of the contract. In the letter sent to the president, Orsi expressed his disagreement with a decision that, according to the Broad Front, “innovates in a very sensitive matter by a government that is already exit.”
