International organizations, based in France, condemned the imprisonment of Franco-Nicaraguan citizens Jeanine Horvilleur Y Ana Carolina Alvarezwife and daughter, respectively, of the opponent in exile Javier Alvarezand demanded that the Nicaraguan regime release them unconditionally and drop the charges against them.
The women were sentenced for the alleged crimes of conspiracy to undermine national integrity and propagation of false news. Daniel Ortega’s justice prosecuted them together with the citizen Felix Roizhusband of Ana Carolina, son-in-law of Álvarez.
«Although they are French-Nicaraguan, Jeanine Horvilleur and her daughter Ana Carolina have not been allowed the right to consular visits. For this reason, we ask the French authorities to intervene as soon as possible to obtain the release of him and that of Félix Roiz, that the charges against them be withdrawn and that they be granted political asylum,” the organizations demanded.

They stressed that the three people were prosecuted for “the sole reason that they and he are respectively the wife, daughter and son-in-law of Javier Álvarez, a political opponent persecuted by the dictatorship.”
“Unable to arrest (Javier Álvarez) at his home, the Ortega police imprisoned his family to force him to turn himself in. When this hateful blackmail failed, justice did not hesitate to instruct its process and demand this implausible sentence, “added the signatories.
The action of the Ortega-Murillo regime was described by the organizations as “viciousness, baseness and ferocity.”

The associations reminded the international community that in Nicaragua there are more than 230 political prisoners, detained and arbitrarily sentenced, subjected to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, including torture.
Jeanine Horvilleur, Ana Carolina Alvarez Y Felix Roiz they were brought to impeachment on January 17 and 18. The Prosecutor’s Office, at the service of the presidential couple, requested eight years in prison against the French-Nicaraguan citizens, and ten years in prison against Roiz.
The signatory associations are CCFD Terre Solidaires (Comié Catholique contre la Faim et pour le Développement), CNO (Nicaragua Occitanie Committee), CSPN (Collective of solidarity with the people of Nicaragua), FAL (France Latin America) and FIDH (Federation Internationale pour les Droits Humains).
The complaint was backed by the Nicaragua Nunca Más Human Rights Collective.
