Virtually no former collaborator or party partner has come out in defense of the former president. Only his wife, the deputy Margarita Zavala, has reversed with a discreet: “We would like brave presidents, we would like responsible parties”, from her seat in San Lázaro.
The moral leader of PAN, Diego Fernández de Cevallos, has once been the most emphatic ally against him, ruling: “If Calderón did not know about his secretary’s behavior, he is stupid.”
As expected, in the so-called “trial of the century” and without yet having the verdict of the jury, Felipe Calderón appears as the most affected, since the situation is not helping him; he has been abandoned politically and has become a stone for the opposition, since the majority of Mexicans have issued a common judgment against him.
I had never been so vulnerable.
This situation hits several railings. First to his wife, who is looking for the CDMX Government Headquarters; to his former collaborators and allies, and to the entire opposition alliance, which is silent, since it has a great battle against Morena in Coahuila and the State of Mexico, two States that suffered too much from the failure of the war against drugs.
In addition, in a more dangerous aspect for his cause, the fact that García Luna has decided not to participate in the witness stand with his statement, means that he is looking for an opportunity to become a protected witness, against Felipe Calderón himself and other politicians.
The defeat that the former president has suffered is merely perception and media, but it could be enough to catapult him into the historical garbage of Mexican politics.
