«We support that call»he said in an interview in the framework of the 53rd General Assembly of the Organization of American States OAS, which is being held in Washington.

«We hope that in the OAS this call bears fruit and that it bears fruit (for) religious freedom, and what is suffered in Nicaragua can be stopped»he declared.
A spreading evil
Foreign Minister Gómez stated that concern about the situation of persecution against the country’s Catholic Church and its priests is alarming for the democratic member countries of the Organization of American States, OAS.
He assured that this type of repression is spreading to other countries and that it is considered a violation of human rights. «We should have a continent free in terms of creed and religious expression»said.
In Nicaragua, it is estimated that more than 3,000 religious processions linked to the Catholic Church were prohibited by the Daniel Ortega regime Police, which has forced Catholic parishioners to celebrate them inside Catholic temples.
The priest in exile Edwin Román even went so far as to describe as “scandalous” the situation of persecution that the Catholic Church experienced in the country, during the celebration of Holy Week this year.
