The Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona)within the framework of the celebration of the National Free Zones Day, recognized the President of the Republic, Luis Abinaderand the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Victor Bisonó (Ito)due to the recovery of the economy and the record growth of the sector in the last two years.
The event also highlighted the work of the executive director of the National Council of Free Zones, Daniel Lyranzo.
The president of the Adozona, Luis Jose Bonillahighlighted that they project at the end of this year to exceed US$10 billion in exports, generating net foreign exchange of US$1,700 million, with a GDP growth of 9.2% and with a total impact on the national economy of 7.2% of GDP.

Abinader indicated that free zones allow the country to be positioned as a reliable destination, as well as maximize opportunities for nearshoring (reconfiguration of supply chains), to which the current government administration has put special interest and commitment.
He called for the public and private sectors to work together to find innovative solutions to the problems that nearshoring brings, such as increased demand; technical capacity of human capital, streamlining the processes associated with this sector and creating sustainable and long-term promotion strategies that allow us to continue positioning ourselves as an efficient option.
Exports of goods from free zones closed 2021 with a growth of 15% compared to 2019 and 22% compared to 2020.
This growth has had an impact on the generation of jobs: 2021 closed with more than 184 thousand direct jobs and the projections of the authorities are of more than 200 thousand at the end of 2022.
This first semester the number of parks went to 83 from 79 existing in 2021.
