After more than 24 hours of the fire in the Colon Free Zone, where the Meritorious Fire Department of the Republic of Panama (BCBRP) had mishaps to extinguish the flames due to lack of water intakes or hydrants near the area, the manager of the Free Zone Giovanni Ferrari, stated that he has held talks with the Association of Free Zone Users to find solutions to establish a centralized fire prevention system.

Ferrari assured that his administration built a new Fire Station that will be inaugurated in the coming weeks within the Free Zone to make it available to the BCBRP to provide it with personnel and equipment for any eventuality that occurs in this place.

He indicated that although it is premature to talk about losses, it is estimated that seven out of ten warehouses located in one of the premises were affected by the fire.

For his part, Sub-Commissioner Basilio Sánchez Díaz, in charge of the Colón Police Zone, said that they initiated preventive actions that are carried out inside and outside the Free Zone, while Captain Ariel Caballero of the National Directorate of Transit Operations, said that detours were made in the area to prevent drivers from entering the fire site.
