Free music classes are offered at Complexo da Maré

The second edition of the Sons da Maré project, in the Nova Holanda favela, at Complexo da Maré, in Rio de Janeiro, are open. To the Registrations to participate in classes can be made in person at the headquarters of the Vida Real Institutein Teixeira Ribeiro Street, s/n, in the back of the family clinic. According to the organizers, students will be able to experience the process of teaching and learning the musical language, which involves The practice of playing instruments, the study of musical theory and the development of sensitivity and creativity, providing a complete experience of immersion in the universe of music.

According to the institute, the activities take place in the morning, afternoon and night shifts, with the objective of providing children and adolescents, from 13 years old, cultural activities in the school contract. In addition to stimulating cultural development, the project also creates opportunities for vocational training.

“We believe in the valorization of territories and the development of the communities around the yellow line. Sons da Maré is an example of how culture can open paths and generate opportunities for youth,” said Lamsa’s communication, sustainability and ombudsman coordinator, Renata Britto.

About the Real Life Institute

The Life Real Institute was founded in 2004 by community leader Sebastião Antônio de Araújo, known as Seu Tião, to offer new opportunities for young people from Complexo da Maré. According to the entity, the project started with school and computer activities and, over the years, has expanded its performance, also offering music, singing, theater, photography, games and psychological care, Today benefiting more than 220 students.

“We are turning lives into the Maré Complex. Our work shows that children in the community can be good, dream and gain space in society,” said Sebastião.

Some teachers from the Institute are alumni, which demonstrates the social impact of the initiative. This is the case of Carlos Eduardo Machado. “Today, my life is music. I teach and also play elsewhere, but being able to teach new young people who are starting is an amazing experience,” said Carlos.
