Free day for Cubans and red flags for foreign guests of the regime on May 1

That the streets of Havana are empty this May Day was something to be expected, after the cancellation yesterday by the Cuban government of the “austere” acts planned. What has been a surprise is that there is a sun that cracks the stones in almost the entire Island, when the reason given for the suspension is that it would be prolonged the storm this sunday.

The good weather has raised such suspicion that the “challenge” of uploading a photo of “the sunny morning” from “your corner” is running like wildfire on the networks. With the hashtag #yonodesfiloel1demayo, the message was launched by Amelia Calzadillathe graduate in English Philology who gained notoriety after the publication from various videos in which he denounced the vicissitudes that a mother in Cuba suffers to raise her children. Calzadilla was joined by other Cubans such as the journalist Diasniurka Salcedo or the announcer Junior Morales.

At the same time, the regime presumes in the official press to receive “more than a thousand guests from different countries” for this International Workers’ Day. According to Prensa Latina, some of them participated on the 26th and 27th of a “scientific workshop” to discuss topics such as “historiography, theory and method for the study of work and workers” or “experiences and challenges” of social movements in America.

In addition, always according to the official media, they were toured through different neighborhoods of the capital to learn about the “transformation work in the Havana communities.”

President Miguel Díaz-Canel met in the Palace of the Revolution with almost 300 Americans, “friends of the Island” who “accompany the fight against the blockade.”

During the dialogue, reported the Presidency of Cuba, “the American activist Manolo de los Santos meant that the experience of these days in Cuba has been wonderful, because they live the truth of the people, in the midst of the difficult economic moments they are going through.”

Foreigners the only ones who seem to have something to celebrate today. (14 and a half)

For this May 2, it is expected that these delegates will participate in the closing of the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cubaat the Havana Convention Center, on the occasion of “anti-imperialism 200 years after the Monroe Doctrine.”

Until that moment arrives, some of these foreigners have been seen this Monday through the streets of Havana with protest, red and Communist Party flags, in addition to their national banner, as was the case of some Italians in Old Havana. They’re the only ones who seem to have something to celebrate today.
