Opposition leader Freddy Superlano received This Friday he officially released his freedom, after 19 months of his detention.
In a video published on his social networks, you can see the moment in which a police officer gives him the document of his full freedom, under the regulations of the recently approved Amnesty Law, criticized for its limitations but praised for the openness it offers.
“Today, after almost 19 months, we regain our freedom, which was taken from us for thinking differently and defending our convictions, and which at no time would I hesitate to continue defending. Long live Venezuela free!”, expressed on his social networks Superlano, who had been released on February 9 but under house arrest.
His wife had recently denounced that the leader was not fully free, despite the fact that in January the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, said that there would be a significant release of prisoners, which in the long run has developed in dribs and drabs.
Superlano was arrested on July 30, 2024, two days after the presidential elections of July 28, whose results were unknown by the majority opposition, which declared Edmundo González Urrutia as the winner.
His arrest occurred in the context of the repression after those elections. Later, the Public Ministry linked him to the disclosure of electoral records that Chavismo described as irregular.
He has been a deputy of the National Assembly elected in 2015 and a candidate for the Governor of Barinas in 2021, elections that he won by a narrow margin, although the result was later annulled by the Supreme Court of Justice on the grounds of administrative disqualification.
The former deputy remained confined mainly in the Rodeo I Judicial Confinement Center, in the state of Miranda.
